What you get

For the two-year Master’s programme (MSc) in Electrical Engineering with a specialisation in Microelectronics at Delft University of Technology in the Netherlands, you will receive a grant of partial scholarship that covers part of your tuition fees. The amount depends on which tuition fee rate you pay: the statutory rate or the institutional rate, which is determined by your registered nationality. Each year, up to 2 students receive this grant. It is funded by the university’s Microelectronics Research Department. If your average mark in the first year is at least 8.0 out of 10 (80%), your grant will be continued in the second year. If you achieve a mark of 9.0 (90%) or higher in a final dissertation at the Department of Microelectronics, you will be offered a PhD place there.

Who can apply

• Admission: You have been admitted (or provisionally admitted) to the two-year Master’s programme (MSc) in Electrical Engineering, specialising in Microelectronics, at Delft University of Technology.
• Field of study: This award applies exclusively to the ‘Microelectronics’ degree programme and not to other Master’s programmes.
• Nationality: You are an international student at a recognised higher education institution outside the Netherlands.
• Grades: Your cumulative average mark for your Bachelor’s degree is at least 80% of the maximum mark on your grading scale.
• Where you study: You will remain at TU Delft for the entire duration of the funding period and will be working on your Master’s thesis in the Department of Microelectronics.

How to apply

First, submit a complete application for the Master’s programme. Then, by 1 December (23:59 CET), upload the scholarship application form, a letter of recommendation and your English language certificate. In the form, you will be asked to answer a few brief questions about your motivation – about yourself, your strengths beyond your academic grades and your career plans – in a maximum of two A4 pages. Successful applicants will be notified by email towards the end of March.

How realistic are your chances?

This scholarship is awarded on a highly selective basis: only up to 2 students on a specific MSc programme are eligible to receive it. The pool of eligible applicants is small, but competition amongst the strong applicants is fierce. Delft University of Technology states that it receives far more scholarship applications than it can fund. If you clearly meet the 80% grade threshold, have been admitted to the Microelectronics programme and write a compelling personal statement, your chances are good. There is no room for a weak application.
