Wessel Ganzevoort Fonds (University of Groningen)

You get up to 1,000 EUR per application to cover a concrete academic activity. Examples are buying books, publishing your work, joining or organising a conference, or going on a study trip. The fund is run by the Faculty of Religion, Culture and Society (Faculteit Religie, Cultuur en Maatschappij) at the University of Groningen. This is not a monthly payment but a one-off grant for a specific project, so you apply for one activity and its budget.

Who can apply

• Who you are: You are a student, staff member or researcher at the Faculty of Religion, Culture and Society, University of Groningen.
• What it pays for: Your request must be a concrete academic activity, for example buying books, a publication, organising a conference or a session at one, or a study trip.
• Special case: You can also apply if you research the history of the Groningen faculty itself.
• What decides it: The fund checks whether you really need the money, whether your plan is feasible, and how much visibility or impact the activity has.

How to apply

Send a short project description of up to 400 words plus a budget to the fund's secretary. There are two rounds each year, with deadlines on 15 January and 5 September.

How realistic are your chances?

This fund is aimed at a very narrow group: only students and staff of one faculty at one university can apply, and only for a specific project. So few people compete for it. If you belong to the faculty and can show a clear, feasible plan and a real need for the money, your prospects are good. A concrete budget and a well-defined activity matter more than a polished pitch.
