What you get

You will receive 2,612 EUR per month for both years of the research-based Master’s programme in Economics (specialising in ‘Academic Economics’) at Tilburg University in the Netherlands. If you are not an EEA/EU student, the scholarship will also significantly reduce your tuition fees. Instead of the institutional fee of approximately 20,500 EUR, you will pay only the statutory fee, which has been provisionally set at 2,771 EUR for the period 2027–28. The centER Graduate School for Economics and Business awards this scholarship, which prepares you for a PhD in Economics or Econometrics.

Who can apply

• Programme: You are enrolled on the ‘Academic Economics’ programme, which is part of the two-year Research Master’s programme in Economics at Tilburg University, or you are applying to study there. First- and second-year students are eligible to apply.
• Degree: You hold a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Economics, Econometrics, Business Administration or a related field such as Mathematics, Statistics, Data Science or Business Analytics.
• Grades: You are among the top 10% in your class or have an average mark of at least 8.0 at a Dutch university.
• English: You meet the language requirements, for example IELTS 7.0 (Writing and Speaking at least 6.5) or TOEFL iBT 100.
• Admission test: You have achieved a GRE score of at least 164 in the quantitative section, or an equivalent GMAT score. You may skip this step if you hold an outstanding degree from the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom or Switzerland.
• Nationality: All nationalities can apply.

How to apply

Applications for the degree programme are made via Studielink and the OSIRIS enrolment system. There is no separate scholarship application form. To be considered for the CentER scholarship, please submit your complete application by 1 February. The admissions committee will make a decision within four to six weeks and award the scholarship on the basis of academic merit.

How realistic are your chances?

This scholarship is awarded on a highly selective basis. It is tied to a specific degree programme at a particular university, the number of scholarships is limited, and awards are made solely on the basis of academic merit. If you clearly meet the minimum requirements of 10% in terms of grades and test results, and apply well in advance of the February deadline, your chances are good, as the pool of eligible applicants is small. Strong applicants from the EEA, the UK or Switzerland have the added advantage of being able to waive the GRE.
