Erasmus Trustfonds scholarship for an international exchange

You get a one-off grant towards a study period or internship abroad that is part of your degree. There is no fixed sum. The amount is worked out to fit your situation and the money available, and it is paid once rather than monthly. The fund awards around 40 grants a year. It is run by the A.A. van Beek Fonds, a named fund within the Erasmus Trustfonds, to help students of Erasmus University Rotterdam add international experience to their studies.

Who can apply

• University: You are a full-time bachelor's or master's student at Erasmus University Rotterdam.
• Financial need: You qualify for the supplementary grant from the Dutch student finance body DUO (the 'aanvullende beurs'), which is based on your and your parents' income.
• Part of your degree: The study or internship abroad is part of your official programme, and you earn at least 15 ECTS credits during it that count towards your degree.
• Timing: Your exchange starts no earlier than six weeks after the application deadline.
• First time from this fund: You have not received support from the A.A. van Beek Fonds for an exchange before.
• Field of study: All subjects can apply.
• Better chances: You are preferred if this is your first study or internship abroad, and if you go to a university outside Europe.

How to apply

You create an account in the online portal and fill in the form, in Dutch or English. Deadlines fall several times a year, always at 12:00 noon. Recent rounds closed on 26 October 2026, 3 May 2027, 21 June 2027 and 25 October 2027. You usually hear back within about six weeks.

How realistic are your chances?

This award is cut narrowly. You must study at Erasmus University Rotterdam, qualify for the means-tested DUO supplementary grant, and go abroad as part of your curriculum, so the eligible group is small. With around 40 grants a year, prospects are good if you clearly meet those conditions and can show real financial need, especially if it is your first time abroad or you go outside Europe. Grants go by order of applications received, so applying early in the round helps.
