Rotterdam Talent Scholarship (ROTAS)

You get a full scholarship that covers the whole three-year Bachelor in Liberal Arts & Sciences at Erasmus University College (EUC) in Rotterdam. It pays your tuition fee in full (normally 5,800 EUR per year for Dutch, EU and EEA students, or about 16,300 EUR for non-EU students). It also covers your housing (around 835 EUR per month), your books and study materials (up to 200 EUR per year), and your membership of the EUCSA student association. If you are a first-year student without a laptop, you can also claim up to 1,000 EUR for one. The scholarship is run by the foundation STORT (Stichting ter Ondersteuning van Rotterdamse Talenten) for students from Rotterdam who could not otherwise afford EUC. Insurance, everyday living costs and municipal taxes are not covered.

Who can apply

• Rotterdam link: You live in the municipality of Rotterdam (including Hoek van Holland, Hoogvliet and Rozenburg), or you go to (or went to) secondary school there.
• Programme: You have applied to and been accepted for the Bachelor in Liberal Arts & Sciences at Erasmus University College.
• Financial need: You cannot pay for your EUC studies yourself, and you are willing to show ROTAS your financial situation.
• Nationality: Any nationality can apply, Dutch or international, as long as you meet the Rotterdam link.
• State support: You first use the Dutch state funding you are entitled to, such as the supplementary grant (aanvullende beurs).

How to apply

First apply to EUC through the regular procedure and get accepted. Once accepted, fill in the ROTAS application form and send it within two weeks of your acceptance. If you are eligible, you are invited to an interview with the foundation, and you hear the decision within a week of that interview.

How realistic are your chances?

This award is aimed at a narrow group. You must have a real Rotterdam connection, be accepted onto one specific EUC programme, and show genuine financial need, so few people qualify. Around 10 scholarships are given each year. If you clearly meet these conditions, can document your need and apply soon after acceptance, your prospects are good.
