UCU Rosemary Orr Scholarship (Campus Fee Waiver)

You get free on-campus housing for all 3 years of your degree at University College Utrecht (UCU), the international honours college for Liberal Arts and Sciences at Utrecht University. The waiver covers the campus fee for a shared (double) room, which otherwise costs about 4,939 EUR per year. UCU gives out 6 of these waivers each year to newly admitted students who could not otherwise afford to study there. Note that the waiver does not cover tuition, the deposit that secures your place, visa costs, UCSA membership or your living expenses. You pay those from your own funds or another scholarship.

Who can apply

• Where you study: You are newly admitted to University College Utrecht in the Netherlands.
• Timing: You are an incoming student, not already enrolled.
• Nationality: Any nationality can apply, both Dutch students and students from inside or outside the European Economic Area.
• Financial need: You can show that you genuinely need financial help to afford UCU. This is the decisive factor.
• Grades: Your grades do not matter here, so you do not need strong results.
• Housing: You plan to live on campus in a shared room. If you move off campus in your third year, the waiver stops.

How to apply

Start your admission application by registering in Studielink, which sends you to the UCU application portal. The scholarship application is a section within that same form. Submit both your admission and scholarship applications between 1 October and 1 December. A committee reviews the scholarship separately, only after you have been offered a place, and sends its decision in a separate letter.

How realistic are your chances?

Only 6 waivers are given each year, and the college says it always has more applicants than places, so competition is real. The decision rests entirely on financial need rather than grades. Your prospects depend on how clearly you can document that need. A complete application, submitted well before the 1 December deadline, gives you the best shot.
