What the A.A. van Beek Fonds gives you

You get a one-off grant to help pay for a study period or internship abroad that is part of your degree at Erasmus University Rotterdam. There is no fixed amount. It is worked out for your situation and depends on the available budget, so the sum is set individually and confirmed in your award letter. The fund was set up in 1923 to give commerce students international experience. It now runs within the Erasmus Trustfonds.

Who can apply

• University: You are a full-time bachelor's or master's student at Erasmus University Rotterdam.
• Where you go: You go abroad on an exchange or internship that counts towards your official study programme.
• Study credits: You earn at least 15 ECTS credits during the stay towards your degree.
• Financial need: You qualify for the Dutch government supplementary grant (the DUO aanvullende beurs, extra state aid for students whose parents cannot contribute much). You must show this is plausible, but you do not need to have applied for or received it.
• Field of study: Open to all faculties.
• Nationality: All nationalities can apply.
• First-time funding: You have not received support from this fund before.
• Preferred: You have better chances if this is your first academic trip abroad, or if you go to a university outside Europe. Earlier non-academic trips, such as an au pair year or a summer school, do not count against you.

How to apply

You apply through the Erasmus Trustfonds portal, choosing the 'studentenondersteuning' (student support) application type. For 2026, applications close at 12:00 noon on 4 May, 22 June and 26 October. Your stay must start no earlier than six weeks after the deadline. You normally hear the outcome within six weeks.

How realistic are your chances?

This award is cut narrowly. You must study at one specific university, go abroad as part of your programme, and qualify for Dutch supplementary state aid, so the eligible group is small. If you clearly meet those conditions, your prospects are good, especially if it is your first academic trip abroad or your destination is outside Europe. Grants go by priority order and within the available budget, so a well-prepared early application helps.
