About this scholarship
Merit Scholarship (Leistungsstipendium) of MedUni Wien
You will receive a one-off payment of 750 to 1,500 EUR for one academic year. The Medical University of Vienna (MedUni Vienna) awards this for outstanding academic achievement. The exact amount depends on a score calculated from your grades and additional activities. The amount will be transferred to your bank account as a one-off payment; it is therefore not a monthly scholarship. If there are a large number of applicants and funds are limited, it is possible that even a strong application may be unsuccessful; in the event of a tie, the decision will be made by lot.
Who can apply
- University: You are a full-time student at MedUni Vienna.
- Study programme: You are studying for a diploma in medicine or dentistry, or for a Master’s degree in Medical Informatics or Molecular Precision Medicine. Doctoral candidates and PhD students are not eligible to apply.
- Nationality: You are an Austrian citizen or are treated as such, which includes EEA nationals as well as certain non-EU nationals, stateless persons and recognised refugees.
- Results: You have passed all compulsory modules from the previous academic year (from 1 October 2024 to 30 September 2025), and your average mark is 2.0 or higher.
- Study time: You have completed your degree programme within the standard duration of study plus one additional semester. Illness, pregnancy or similar unforeseen circumstances may justify an extension, provided you submit the relevant supporting documentation.
- Final-year medicine: To be eligible for a scholarship in the 6 academic year of your medical or dental degree, you must have successfully completed the clinical year, including the ‘Return Week’, or the 72-week placement.
How to apply
Applications must be submitted via the MedCampus online system between 1 and 31 October. Third-year students who do not have access to MedCampus may apply by email instead. A committee assesses the applications and recommends who should receive an award.
How realistic are your chances?
This scholarship is restricted to students on four specific degree programmes at MedUni Vienna with a grade point average of 2.0 or higher, meaning that the pool of applicants is already very small. As the budget is limited, even an outstanding academic record does not guarantee that you will be awarded the scholarship. Extra points for teaching duties, on-call duty or a publication may tip the balance in your favour. If your marks significantly exceed the minimum requirements and you can provide evidence of such activities, your chances are good.
