Ovar Municipality - Higher Education Scholarship for students living in Ovar

What you get

From the start of the academic year, you will receive a sum of EUR 90 per month from Ovar Town Council (Câmara Municipal de Ovar) for 10 months. The money is intended to cover the costs of accommodation, meals, travel, study materials and tuition fees. You will receive a higher monthly amount if a medical committee determines that you have a disability of 40% or higher on the national disability scale. The town of Ovar funds this grant to enable more local students from low-income families to access university.

Who can apply

• Where you live: You have been registered as a resident in the Ovar municipal area for at least 2 years.
• Level of study: You are enrolled on a degree programme leading to a Bachelor’s degree (Licenciatura) or a Master’s degree (Mestrado or integrated Mestrado).
• Institution: You study at a public, private, cooperative or polytechnic higher-education institution.
• Field of study: Any topic is allowed.
• No degree yet: You have not yet obtained the qualification for which you wish to apply for funding.
• Age: You are 25 or younger.
• Grades: You have passed the last school year and have been promoted to the next year group.
• Financial need: Your household income per person is no more than 75% of the Portuguese minimum wage per month.

How to apply

Please submit the application form and the required documents in person at the council’s service desk (Balcao de Atendimento), which is open from 09:00 to 16:00. The service desk is open every October. For 2025/2026, the deadline was 24 October. If you are unable to visit in person by 16:00 on the final day, you may submit your application by email by 23:59.
