University Core Bursary (University of Nottingham)

You will receive about 1,610 EUR per year (£1,400) for the entire duration of your studies, which will be paid directly into your bank account in three instalments per year. This is a grant, not a loan, so you will never have to repay it and can spend it on anything that helps you with your studies. The University of Nottingham awards this grant automatically to students from low-income households, so no separate application is required and there is no competition for a limited number of places.

Who can apply

• University: You’re studying at the University of Nottingham.
• Degree: You are enrolled on a full-time Bachelor’s degree programme, a PGCE programme, a postgraduate nursing programme or a postgraduate medical programme. Part-time Bachelor’s students receive a reduced amount, which is based on the number of their credit points.
• Household income: According to Student Finance’s calculations, your household income is between £0 and £35,000,.
• Income check: Student Finance has carried out a comprehensive means-tested assessment of your income. This is the standard means test carried out when you apply for a means-tested loan.
• Fee status: For funding purposes, you have ‘Home’ status (United Kingdom), which means you are treated as a student based in the UK and pay the tuition fees set for the academic year in which you commence your studies.
• Field of study: Open to all subjects.

How to apply

There is no application form. Apply for a means-tested loan from Student Finance and give the organisation permission to pass on your income details to the university. This sharing of information is enabled by default. Apply for this assessment with Student Finance by 4 May 2026 so that it can be completed by the deadline of 19 June 2026. You should then complete your enrolment at the university and provide your UK bank details.

How realistic are your chances?

This grant is guaranteed and is not subject to a selection process. If your household income is £35,000 or below and you meet the other eligibility criteria, you will receive the grant, and there is no limit on the number of places available. The only thing that could throw a spanner in the works is timing. Apply early for the means-tested assessment by the Student Finance Office and give your consent for your data to be shared, as late or missing assessments cannot be accepted.
