About this scholarship

What You Get

European students selected for the DUO-Thailand Fellowship Programme receive €800 per month for up to 4 months (up to €3,200 in total) to study at a Thai university. The money is paid as a lump sum on arrival and can be used for tuition fees, living costs, or travel — whatever you need.

How the Programme Works

This is a paired exchange: you and a Thai student apply together as a duo. You study at their Thai university; they study at your European university. The two exchange periods do not have to happen at the same time. Both universities must have a formal cooperation agreement in place, and your home university must accept the credits you earn abroad.

Who Can Apply

  • Nationality: You are a citizen of one of the 30 European ASEM member states (including all EU countries plus Norway, Switzerland, and the UK).
  • Enrolment: You are currently enrolled at an accredited university in one of those 30 European ASEM member states.
  • Academic standing: At least 70% of your completed courses are graded B or above (Master's) or C or above (Bachelor's) on the ECTS scale.
  • No double funding: You have not applied for or received any other scholarship for the same period.
  • Full participation: You are able to complete the entire exchange period — you cannot already be at the host university when you apply.
  • Student status: You will remain a registered student throughout the whole exchange.

What You Do During the Exchange

  • Study at least 6 credits at the Thai host university in your main or related subject area.
  • Submit a final report to Thailand's Ministry of Higher Education, Science, Research and Innovation (MHESI) within 30 days of finishing the programme.

Application

You apply through your university, not directly. Your institution nominates you together with your Thai partner student as a pair. The application is submitted in printed form by post to MHESI in Bangkok — not by email or fax. The annual deadline is 8 October.

  • Official nomination letter from the Thai university
  • Copy of the cooperation agreement between the two universities
  • Admission letter from both universities
