Erasmus+ mobility grant at UTAD

You will receive a monthly grant to enable you to complete part of your studies in another European country. You can either study at a partner university or undertake a work placement, i.e. gain practical experience in a company or organisation abroad. The funding runs for 2 to 12 months. It is intended to help cover your additional costs whilst abroad, but does not cover your full living expenses.

How much you receive depends on how expensive the destination country is:

• Study stay: 350 to 450 euros per month. For example, 450 euros for Denmark, Finland, Ireland, Norway or Sweden; 400 euros for Germany, France, Italy or Spain; 350 euros for Poland, Romania or Turkey.
• Work placement: 500 to 600 euros per month, using the same country groups.
• Travel allowance: extra money that rises with distance, from 180 EUR for a short trip up to 1,500 EUR for the furthest destinations.
• Top-ups: Additional payments if you receive Portuguese social assistance (SAS), have a disability or use environmentally friendly transport.

You will continue to pay your usual UTAD tuition fees and will not be required to pay any additional fees to the host university. Every module you pass whilst studying abroad will count towards your degree. The scholarship is administered by UTAD’s International Office (GRIM).

Who can apply

• University: You are enrolled as a student at the Universidade de Trás-os-Montes e Alto Douro (UTAD) in Vila Real, Portugal.
• Field of study: Open to all subjects.
• Study phase (study stay): As a Bachelor’s student, you must have earned at least 60 ECTS credits and be in at least your second year of study. Master’s and PhD students may also apply.
• Study phase (work placement): Applicants of all qualification levels are welcome to apply; there are no minimum requirements regarding the number of credit points.
• Language: You should have a knowledge of English, preferably at level B2.
• Nationality and age: Applicants of any nationality and any age are welcome to apply.
• Where you go: An EU country or another Erasmus+ country in Europe. To study abroad, UTAD must have an exchange agreement with your chosen host university.

How to apply

First, please contact the Erasmus coordinator for your degree programme at UTAD. Then complete the online application on the GRIM portal using your UTAD login details. For the 2026/2027 academic year, the application period runs from 19 December 2025 to 25 February 2026. Your programme coordinator is involved in the selection process, which depends on the places available under UTAD’s exchange agreements.
