About this scholarship

Benefit

You will receive 1,000 EUR per year (500 EUR per semester) as a grant towards your tuition fees at a Portuguese state university. The amount is paid in two instalments, one in November and one in March. The grant can be extended for the entire duration of your Bachelor’s or Master’s degree, provided you continue to meet the eligibility criteria. In addition, there are separate funding schemes for students with special educational needs and for students with outstanding academic achievements (a grade point average of at least 17 out of 20), as well as up to 400 EUR per year towards travel costs, meals or study materials. The scholarship is privately funded by Engenheiro Armindo Louro and awarded through the Associação Centro Cultural da Caloura (CCC), a cultural association in Lagoa on the island of São Miguel in the Azores.

Eligibility

  • Where you live: You have an officially registered place of residence in the Azores.
  • Who you are: You are a student from the Azores or a Portuguese student who has moved to the University of the Azores to study and now lives in the Azores.
  • Degree: You are studying at a Portuguese state university and are completing your first bachelor’s or master’s degree there.
  • Field of study: Open to all subjects.
  • Financial need: You need financial support to continue your studies and can provide evidence of this by submitting your household’s income tax return. Priority will be given to students who do not receive state funding or any other scholarship.
  • Not eligible: Foreign or Erasmus students, working students, students on a placement abroad, master's students past the standard study time, and PhD or postgraduate students.

How to apply

You apply online using the CCC form and submit proof of your income, your enrolment at university and your residence in the Azores. The application window is in October each year, with the deadline for applications being 31 October. Following a review of the documents, 30 candidates will be shortlisted and interviewed in person or via video call. The final decision is made by the patron.
