About this scholarship

Medeiros e Almeida Foundation Scholarship

You get a fixed monthly grant to help cover the cost of studying an art subject at university. It is paid over 10 months per academic year. The Foundation is currently revising its rules, so the exact amount for the next round is not yet set. You can renew the grant each year as long as you still meet the requirements and pass your courses. It is paid by the Fundacao Medeiros e Almeida, a Lisbon arts foundation that has supported Azorean art students since 2004.

Who can apply

  • Connection to the Azores: You were born in the Azores, are the child of Azorean parents, or have been living in the Azores for more than 5 years.
  • Study level: You must be in at least the second year of a Bachelor’s degree programme or be enrolled on a Master’s, postgraduate or PhD programme.
  • Field of study: Your degree programme has an artistic focus, such as fine art, painting, sculpture, music, architecture, design, theatre, film, dance, art history or cultural heritage studies.
  • Where you study: Every university counts.
  • Age: On 30 September of the academic year for which you are applying, you will be 25 years old or younger.
  • No other scholarship: You do not hold another scholarship, except one from your university's social services or the Ministry of Education.
  • Financial need: Applicants with the lowest household income or personal income will be given priority.
