About this scholarship

Benefit

You will receive an amount of annual grant of up to about 5,225 EUR (10 times the Portuguese social assistance rate, the IAS, which stood at 522.50 EUR in the year 2025). This grant supplements the scholarship you receive from your higher education institution. The exact amount depends on your income bracket, the distance between your higher education institution and your parents’ home, whether it is a public higher education institution, and any scholarships you are already receiving. The grant is awarded for the official duration of your studies, provided you successfully complete each academic year. You may receive a bonus of 25% if you volunteer with the Paredes de Coura Fire Brigade (at least 2 years of service and at least 160 hours in the last year), or 15% for at least 40 hours of other voluntary work in the last year. The funds are provided by the municipality of Paredes de Coura (Câmara Municipal de Paredes de Coura).

Eligibility

  • Where you live: You have been living in the municipality of Paredes de Coura for at least 3 years.
  • Level of study: You are enrolled in an accredited higher education course: a CTeSP (a 2-year professional technical diploma), a bachelor's degree (licenciatura) or a master's degree (mestrado).
  • No equivalent degree: You do not yet hold a qualification at the same level.
  • Field of study: Any topic is allowed.
  • Institution's scholarship: You have applied for a scholarship at your own university. If you are studying abroad and this is not possible there, an exception may be granted on a case-by-case basis.
  • Financial need: Your household income per person is no more than 14 times the IAS, which means you are unable to cover the costs of your studies from your own resources.
  • Nationality: Any nationality can apply.
