Alandroal Municipality higher education scholarship

You will receive 705 EUR per year, paid in three instalments of 235 EUR each in January, April and July, for one academic year. The funding comes from the Municipality of Alandroal (Câmara Municipal de Alandroal) in Portugal, which awards this scholarship every year to enable local students to finance their higher education. You may reapply in subsequent years, provided you continue to meet the eligibility criteria.

Who can apply

• Where you live: You have lived in the municipality of Alandroal for at least 2 years. Your Parish Council (Junta de Freguesia) confirms this.
• Level of study: You are studying or intend to enrol on a bachelor’s degree programme (Licenciatura) at a recognised higher education institution in Portugal.
• Where you study: Your organisation may be public, private or a co-operative, provided it is officially recognised in Portugal.
• Field of study: Any subject.
• Nationality: Any nationality can apply.
• Grades: In the previous academic year you passed at least 60% of your ECTS credits. You may be excused for long illness or another serious situation, judged case by case.
• No equivalent degree: You do not yet hold a qualification equivalent to the one you are currently working towards.
• Financial need: Your household income per person per month is equal to or less than the Portuguese minimum wage at the start of the academic year.

How to apply

Complete the application form on the local council’s website or collect it in person. Submit it, together with your supporting documents, at the Balcão União, the central service desk in Alandroal, Terena or Santiago Maior. The application period runs each year from 1 September to 30 November. A panel will assess the applications. If there are more applicants than scholarship places, priority will be given to those with the lowest household income. The local council will make the final decision in January.
