JCMM scholarship for foreign students

You will receive about 250 EUR per month (7,000 CZK) to cover basic living costs during your first two years of study. If your academic performance is good, your university may continue to provide this funding from the third year onwards. You will also receive free advice: help with applying to the university, having your foreign qualification recognised, visa issues and other study-related matters. The programme is run by JCMM, a regional support centre in Brno, and is funded by the South Moravia Region and the City of Brno.

Who can apply

• Nationality: You are from a country outside the EU.
• Degree: You are applying for a Master’s or PhD programme.
• University: You are a full-time student at one of the four partner universities in Brno: Masaryk University, Brno University of Technology, Mendel University or the University of Veterinary Sciences.
• Field of study: All fields of study are accepted, although preference is given to technical and science-related degree programmes.
• Language: You’ll be studying in Czech, so you’ll need a good command of Czech. A very good command of Czech is required for a Master’s degree; for a PhD, it depends on the department.
• New to the Czech Republic: You have never attended a Czech secondary school or university, and at the time of the scholarship selection process, you had not been in the country for more than six months. Language courses and short exchange visits do not count.

How to apply

Complete the online application form on the JCMM website between 1 December and 31 January. You will then need to apply separately to the university of your choice between February and June and sit the entrance examinations there. A committee comprising vice-rectors from the partner universities will make the final selection in June. Only applicants who have already been admitted to a partner university will be considered.

How realistic are your chances?

This scholarship is very narrowly defined: you must be a non-EU applicant seeking to undertake a Master’s or PhD programme in the Czech Republic at one of the four universities in Brno, so the pool of eligible applicants is small. A good command of Czech is the key selection criterion, and preference is given to students studying technical and scientific subjects. If you clearly meet these requirements and are admitted to a partner university, your prospects are good.
