General Description

The Konrad Adenauer Foundation is one of twelve German student support foundations offering support to gifted students. It has links to the Christian Democratic Union (CDU). The Foundation awards a stipend to support German students and educational residents (Bildungsinlaender) at German universities who are aiming for journalism as a career goal. Recipients get a maximum of 597 Euros per month (calculated according to BAföG (German Federal Law on Support in Education)). Recipients also get an additonal 300 Euros per month in book money irrespective of their parents' income. After a successfully completed probationary year, the stipend may continue to be received for the maximum duration of eligibility as determined by BAföG.

Requirements

Eligible for the journalistic stipends are German students and educational residents (Bildungseinlaender) aiming for journalism as a career goal. It is particularly intended for students studying communication studies and journalism. Students must not have completed a minimum amount of study time before submitting an application. However, students must have at least 4 semesters left. A Master's degree being commenced immediately after graduation from a Bachelor's may be accounted for in this calculation. Applicants must have maintained an above-average academic record throughout their school and university career. Additionally, the student is required to have demonstrated prior commitment to political, community-based or social causes.
