About this scholarship
What You Get
This scholarship gives students €600 per semester to help cover the costs of studying abroad. It is a direct grant — not a loan — paid by the state of Burgenland (Austria). In exceptional cases, you can receive it a second time if your stay abroad lasts at least one year.
Who Can Apply
- Age: You are under 26 years old.
- Citizenship: You hold Austrian or EU citizenship.
- Enrolment: You are a full ("ordentliche") student at an Austrian university or university of applied sciences (Fachhochschule).
- Main residence: Your primary registered address (Hauptwohnsitz) is in Burgenland.
- Family allowance: You are entitled to Austrian family allowance (Familienbeihilfe).
- Household income: Your household's net monthly income does not exceed the programme's income limits (the exact thresholds depend on household size — see the official guidelines).
- Study abroad: You are attending classes at a comparable university outside Austria.
What You Need to Submit
- Proof of enrolment at your Austrian university (Studienbuch extract or Inskriptionsbestätigung)
- Acceptance confirmation from the university abroad
- Income data (in most cases this is pulled automatically from the Austrian Finance Ministry's transparency portal; you only need to submit documents manually if your household income includes social support, maintenance payments, orphan's pension, foreign benefits, basic care benefits, or a land valuation notice)
How and When to Apply
Apply online as soon as you have a confirmed place abroad, but no later than 30 June of the academic year in which your study abroad takes place.
