About this grant / loan

Fund for Export Development Foundation grant

You will receive funding to help finance a project aimed at boosting Swedish exports or international trade. The exact amount is not disclosed. It covers part of the project costs, such as the budget and running costs during the project period. The money comes from the Swedish Foundation for Export Promotion, which has been awarding this funding since 1981 in collaboration with the International Chamber of Commerce (ICC) and the Owesen Scholarship Fund.

Who can apply

  • Your project: You are leading a project that promotes or strengthens Swedish exports or international business relations.
  • Who fits: Young people working on an export project; interns at a Swedish Chamber of Commerce abroad, a consulate or a Business Sweden office who are carrying out a project during their placement; and staff at start-ups (provided the project results can be published).
  • Field: Trade, the economy or economic issues relating to Swedish exports.
  • Nationality: Any nationality can apply.
  • University: You do not need to be enrolled at a specific university. Invitations are sent to universities throughout Sweden.
  • Key test: You can clearly explain how your project will benefit other existing or potential Swedish exporters.

How to apply

Please start by submitting an online expression of interest using the Foundation’s form. Applications sent by post will not be accepted. The two deadlines are 1 March and 1 October. If your idea passes the initial assessment, you will be asked to submit a full project description, including the objectives, expected outcomes, budget and timetable. The final decision will be made approximately five weeks after the deadline.

How realistic are your chances?

The funding has one objective: a specific project that clearly benefits Swedish exports. Applicants without a genuine link to exports are screened out at an early stage. If you can present a clearly defined project and demonstrate how it will help other Swedish exporters, you will meet the foundation’s funding criteria exactly, so your prospects are good. A vague idea without a clear link to exports will not make it through the first round.
