About this scholarship
Benefit
You will receive a one-off grant in the form of a cash payment to support your studies or training. The amount is determined on an individual basis and depends on your academic performance as well as your financial circumstances (your income, debts and assets). In the year 2025, the two local groups 21 awarded grants totalling 327,000 SEK (approximately 29,000 EUR), meaning that a single grant is usually worth several thousand SEK. The funding comes from two branches of the Fredrika Bremer Society in Sundsvall and Örnsköldsvik. It is intended to support higher education, including master’s and doctoral programmes, dissertations and vocational training.
Eligibility
- Link to the region: You have a connection to the Swedish county of Västernorrland. For example, you were born there, live there or are studying there.
- What you are doing: One of the following three situations applies to you: you are a student, work in academia or carry out research; or you are undertaking vocational training in a profession that is typically dominated by the opposite sex; or, due to special circumstances, you have never started vocational training or have been unable to complete it.
- Field of study: All topics are open. Projects that highlight or promote facts about gender equality will have a positive impact on your assessment.
- Financial need: You can show that you need the support.
- Grades: Your academic performance will be taken into account in the decision.
How to apply
Please apply via the online form at tillannawedholmsminne.se. The application deadline is 15 October each year. Please provide the details of two referees who can be contacted in connection with your application.
How realistic are your chances?
This grant scheme is very narrowly defined: you must have a genuine connection to Västernorrland and meet one of three specific criteria, meaning that only a small number of people are eligible. As 21 grants are awarded each year, several applicants are funded in each round rather than just one. If you clearly meet the regional connection requirement and can provide evidence of your financial situation, your chances are good, particularly if your work focuses on gender equality.
