Foundation Otto and Charlotte Mannheimer's fund scholarship

You will receive a grant of up to 10,000 SEK (about 900 EUR) to support your work in the fields of art, culture or education. The money will cover specific costs: materials for your project or the travel and accommodation costs associated with a study trip. The foundation, based in Gothenburg, supports artists and individuals working on innovative ideas in schools and the education sector. You apply for funding on a case-by-case basis for a single project or a specific purpose, and the funding is not automatically renewed.

Who can apply

• Field: You work or study in the fields of art, culture or education. The target audience consists primarily of students studying ‘Fine Art’ (Fri konst) and people implementing educational reform projects.
• Where you live: You are based in Gothenburg or work there. Applicants from the region will be given priority.
• Who you are: You are applying as an individual or as an organisation. Priority is given to Swedish applicants.
• Which school: You cannot apply if you are studying at HDK-Valand, the Academy of Music and Theatre (Högskolan för Scen och Musik), Dômen Konstskola or the Gothenburg School of Art (Göteborgs Konstskola). Instead, these institutions receive a lump sum, which they award to their own students.
• What it does not cover: No tuition fees or term fees. No printing of books, reports or exhibition catalogues. No studies that have already been funded by the Swedish student grant (studiemedel). No funding for projects or studies that you have already completed.

How to apply

Applications must be submitted via the Foundation’s online portal. First, create an account and then complete your application. The board meets around four times a year, so there are four application deadlines: 22 February, 10 May, 6 September and 8 November. The board will review your application at its next meeting following the expiry of your chosen deadline.

How realistic are your chances?

This funding scheme is narrowly defined. It is intended for people based in Gothenburg who work in the fields of art, culture or school reform, and several local art and music schools are excluded from it, meaning that their pupils must apply elsewhere. If you clearly meet the Gothenburg-specific criteria and can present a specific project with actual material or travel costs, your chances are good. A clear, concrete plan for how the funds will be used is more important than a general wish list.
