About this scholarship

Tessin Society Scholarship

You will receive a one-off grant of 30,000 SEK (about 2,680 EUR) to study French in France for at least two months. The grant is provided by the Marseille Fund of the Tessinsällskapet, a Swedish cultural association that fosters links between Sweden and France. Around ten of these grants are awarded each year.

Who can apply

  • Where you study: You are enrolled at a Swedish university or college and go to France to study the French language.
  • Degree level: You have not yet obtained a bachelor’s degree or an equivalent qualification. The scholarship is aimed at younger students who are still at the beginning of their studies.
  • School-leaving qualification: You have completed upper secondary education (Swedish gymnasium).
  • French skills: You have a level of French of 5 (level 5) or higher.
  • Residence: You live in Sweden.
  • Field of study: Any topic is allowed.
  • Exchange students: If you are taking part in an exchange programme, you cannot apply.

How to apply

Applications must be submitted via the Tessinsällskapet website between 1 February and 15 March each year. The scholarships are awarded in May.

How realistic are your chances?

The criteria for awarding this scholarship are very strict. You must be studying at a Swedish university, be resident in Sweden, already have a knowledge of French at level 5, and go to France before completing your first degree. This keeps the number of applicants small. As around ten scholarships are awarded each year, anyone who clearly meets these criteria has a good chance of success. Please apply during the short application window from February to March, as late applications will not be considered.
