What you get

You will receive one-time scholarship of around 30,000 SEK (about 2,700 EUR). The payment will be made in February of the year following your application. Some sub-funds award higher amounts: a scholarship for opera students amounts to 80,000 SEK (approximately 7,200 EUR). The exact amount is determined each year by the scholarship committee. The Fredrika Bremer Society supports young women in higher education and manages 20 sub-funds. You only need to submit one application, and the committee will then allocate funds from the sub-fund that best suits you.

Who can apply

• Gender: Only women can apply.
• Age: At the time of applying, you are 35 years old or younger.
• Study level: By the start of the autumn semester, you will have completed at least your 4th semester of a university degree programme (approximately 90 credit points). If you are on a two-year vocational higher education programme (YH), you will have completed at least half of it. These credits may have been earned on a previous course or at another institution.
• Enrolment: At the time of applying, you must be a full-time student and remain so until at least 1 May of the following year. You may also apply if you have taken a break from your studies due to illness or parental leave, but you must provide evidence of this.
• PhD students: You may only apply if you are not in receipt of a PhD scholarship or similar remuneration. Your supervisor must confirm this in a statement.
• Nationality and where you study: If you are a Swedish citizen, you can study in Sweden or abroad. If you are from another country, you can only apply if you complete your entire course of study (a full Master’s or PhD programme, not just one semester) in Sweden.
• Field of study: Any topic is fine.

How to apply

Please complete the application form and post it to the Foundation in Stockholm. Applications sent by email will not be accepted. Your application must be postmarked no later than 15 October. If this date falls on a weekend, the deadline is extended to the following Monday. All applicants will be notified of the decision by the end of February of the following year.

How realistic are your chances?

This funding scheme is narrowly defined: only women up to the age of 35 who have already completed their fourth semester are eligible, meaning that fewer female applicants apply than for fully open scholarships. Both your grades and your financial situation are taken into account during the selection process, although financial need alone is never the deciding factor. If you clearly meet the criteria, write an authentic personal statement yourself (no AI or ghostwriting allowed) and submit your academic transcripts on time, your chances are good.
