Gålöstiftelsen study scholarship

You receive 7,000 to 11,000 SEK per school year (about 620 to 970 EUR). The exact amount depends on your school level. The money is paid one school year at a time and is meant as a needs-based top-up for young people in the greater Stockholm area. It comes from Gålöstiftelsen, one of Sweden's largest scholarship foundations, which awards 1,700 to 2,000 scholarships a year. You can use it for theoretical or practical studies in Sweden or abroad. The amount stays the same even if studying abroad costs more.

Who can apply

• School level: You are in school from year 7 up to your gymnasium leaving certificate (the Swedish upper-secondary diploma). At gymnasium level, you must be on a national programme (nationellt program). University and other higher-education studies are not funded.
• When you can apply: You can apply already in year 6, with funding starting from year 7.
• Full-time study: You study full time in the coming school year.
• Where you live: You are registered in greater Stockholm (Stockholms län), but not in the municipalities of Norrtälje, Nykvarn, Nynäshamn or Södertälje.
• Age: You can be funded until the end of the school year in which you turn 24. If you were born before 2002, you cannot apply.
• Financial need: Your parents' taxable earned income is at most 650,000 SEK (about 57,000 EUR).

How to apply

Create an account and apply online between 1 November and 31 January. The deadline is 16:00 on 31 January. Upload all attachments as digital files. Incomplete applications are not processed, so apply in good time. After the review, you get the decision by email.

How realistic are your chances?

This scholarship is limited by place, age and income, so only school pupils in greater Stockholm whose families stay under the income limit compete for it. At the same time, the foundation gives out 1,700 to 2,000 scholarships a year, which is a large number of places. If you clearly meet the residence, level and income conditions and send a complete application before the deadline, your prospects are good.
