Award for the best Master's thesis (Bo Rydin Foundation)

For an outstanding Master’s thesis, you will receive a one-off prize of SEK 30,000 (about 2,700 EUR). If two students have co-authored the thesis, each of them will generally receive 20,000 SEK (approximately 1,800 EUR). The prize is awarded by the Bo Rydin Foundation for Scientific Research, which supports research in the fields of forestry, health and hygiene at Swedish universities. Several prizes are awarded each year.

Who can apply

• Degree level: You have written a Master’s thesis (Master of Science in Engineering or equivalent) worth at least 30 ECTS credits.
• University: You wrote your dissertation at a Swedish university.
• Field of study: Your topic falls within one of the Foundation’s funding areas: wood technology, forest management, pulp and paper, fibre chemistry, biorefineries, or health and hygiene products such as feminine hygiene products, incontinence and wound care products, tissue paper, cleaning technology and sensor technology.
• Language: Your dissertation may be written in Swedish or English, but must always include an abstract in Swedish.
• Nationality: All nationalities can apply.

How to apply

You do not apply yourself. Your supervising lecturer or examiner nominates your dissertation by sending it to the Foundation, together with a signed letter of recommendation. The nomination must be received by the Foundation by 30 September, and the winners will be announced in December.

How realistic are your chances?

The selection criteria for this award are very strict. Your dissertation must have been written at a Swedish university, fall within one of the Foundation’s research areas, and be nominated by your supervisor. This keeps the pool of applicants small, and a nomination in itself is a strong indication of quality. If your topic clearly fits within these areas and your supervisor supports you, your chances are good.
