About this scholarship

Carl Lamberths Foundation travel grant

You will receive a travel grant of 15,000 SEK (about 1,300 EUR) for a study trip, preferably abroad, to gather new ideas, techniques and inspiration for your craft and design work. The grant is awarded by Hemslöjden, the National Federation of Swedish Craft Associations (SHR), which awards craft grants every year.

Who can apply

  • What you do: You are a designer (formgivare) working in craft and design.
  • Your link to Hemslöjden: You work for a local craft association (hemslöjdsförening) that is a member of SHR, or you are employed by it.
  • Your plan: You’re thinking of going on a study trip, preferably outside Sweden, and can explain what you hope to gain from it.
  • Age: The scholarship is aimed at young designers.
  • Nationality: All nationalities can apply.

How to apply

Applications must be submitted online. The link is available on the Hemslöjden website whilst the application period is open, i.e. from 15 August to 15 September each year. A panel of craft experts reviews the applications and recommends winners to the SHR Executive Board, which makes the final decision. You will receive a response by the end of October.

How realistic are your chances?

This grant is cut very narrowly: you must be a designer connected to an SHR handicraft society, so the eligible group is small. It is also not awarded every year, because it depends on the fund's returns, and it went unawarded in 2023 and 2025. If you clearly fit the society link and bring a focused study-trip plan, your prospects within that small field are good. Just be aware that some years bring no award at all.
