Crafoord travel grant

You get a one-off travel grant of 20,000 SEK (about 1,800 EUR) to collect data abroad for your thesis. The money covers a research trip outside the EU/EEA, where you gather material for your bachelor's or master's thesis. The trip must last at least three weeks. The Crafoord Foundation funds the grant, and Malmö University awards it to its own students. This lets you travel to a country your studies in Sweden would not otherwise take you to.

Who can apply

• University: You are enrolled as a student at Malmö University when you apply.
• Study level: You study at bachelor's or master's level and are writing a thesis.
• Where you go: You travel to a single country outside the EU/EEA that is not part of the Erasmus exchange programme.
• Safety: The Swedish Ministry for Foreign Affairs has not issued a travel warning for that country.
• Length of stay: Your trip lasts at least three weeks.
• Field of study: Any subject works, as long as a supervisor at Malmö University confirms the project fits your programme.

How to apply

You apply online through Malmö University's MoveOn portal. You upload a project description, a budget, a supervisor's confirmation, your transcript and a CV. There are two application windows each year: 15 September to 15 October if you write your thesis in the spring semester, and 1 March to 1 April if you write it in the autumn semester. A committee with all faculties represented reviews the applications and checks mainly whether the project is realistic. You hear the decision by email.

How realistic are your chances?

This grant is open only to Malmö University students planning fieldwork outside the EU/EEA, so the pool is naturally small. The committee weighs feasibility most: a clear plan of what, where and how, plus named contacts in the destination country. If you have a concrete, well-prepared project and a supervisor behind it, your prospects are good.
