What you get

You receive a monthly grant while you study abroad for one or two semesters on an Erasmus+ exchange from Malmö University in Sweden. From the 2026/27 academic year the rate is 580 EUR per month for higher-cost countries such as Austria, Belgium, Denmark, France, Germany, Ireland, Italy, the Netherlands, Norway and the United Kingdom. It is 530 EUR per month for other countries such as Czechia, Estonia, Greece, Portugal, Spain, Croatia, Hungary, Poland, Romania and Turkey. Rates change yearly. You also get an automatic travel grant based on the distance from Malmö to your host city, from 56 EUR for short trips up to 1,735 EUR for the longest ones. You get a higher rate if you travel by low-emission transport such as train, bus or carpool, but you must request this "green travel" before you leave. You can be funded for up to 12 months in total per study level (Bachelor, Master, Doctorate), and you can combine study and internship grants within that limit.

Who can apply

• Your university: You are a registered student at Malmö University and the university has nominated you for an Erasmus+ exchange place.
• Study level: You are a Bachelor's, Master's or Doctoral student.
• Field of study: Any subject.
• Where you go: You study in an EU country (not Sweden), or in Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway, North Macedonia, Serbia or Turkey. The UK is possible if Malmö University selects you. It must be a country other than the one where you live or study, and you live there temporarily during the exchange.
• Extra top-up: You get an additional grant if you have a long-term disability or health condition, are a parent of a minor child, or hold a residence permit for protection needs (refugee, subsidiary or temporary protection).

How to apply

First apply for an Erasmus+ exchange place through Malmö University's MoveON portal. The main application window runs from 9 October (12:00) to 10 November (12:00) for places in the following academic year. A second round for remaining places runs from 10 February to 1 March. Once the university nominates you, it emails you about the grant application: in December for a spring-semester exchange, in June for an autumn-semester exchange.

How realistic are your chances?

This is not a competitive scholarship on its own. The grant follows automatically once Malmö University nominates you for an Erasmus+ place. The real hurdle is winning the exchange place, so your prospects depend on applying within the exchange window and picking a slot that fits your programme. If you secure the nomination, the money is essentially guaranteed at the fixed monthly rate for your destination.
