About this scholarship

Arkeion scholarship

You get a grant to support your professional development in archives and records management. There is no fixed amount: the board sets it case by case. It mainly covers travel (flights, train or boat tickets), accommodation, and the cost of attending a conference or training course. You can also use it for a study trip or to publish a piece of work. For a sense of scale, the association sets aside 50,000 SEK (about 4,400 EUR) a year for these grants. In 2024 it paid out 47,000 SEK (about 4,100 EUR) split between three people. The award is given once a year by Arkeion, the Swedish association for archives and information management, in memory of Leif Paulsen.

Who can apply

  • Membership: You are a member of Arkeion (Föreningen för arkiv och informationsförvaltning).
  • Your field: You work in archives or information and records management, and the grant helps develop your current role.
  • What it funds: Travel, conferences and shorter training. Your employer is expected to pay for expensive, advanced courses.
  • Nationality, age, degree: No restrictions. Any member in the profession can apply.
  • Who is excluded: Members of the association's board cannot receive the grant.

How to apply

You apply by email to the association by 1 April. In your application, say what you want to use the grant for, the result you expect, where and when you will present it, how much you are asking for, and when the activity takes place. The board decides at its meeting after the annual general meeting and sends you a written decision with a short reason either way.

How realistic are your chances?

This grant is cut narrowly: only members of one Swedish professional association working in archives and records management can apply, so the pool is small. If you are a member with a clear, costed plan for a conference, study trip or training that develops your work, your prospects are good. A focused, well-explained request fits what the board funds better than a vague or expensive one.
