Guest Studio in Berlin

You will receive monthly grant of 15,000 SEK (about 1,300 EUR) for the two months of your stay, making a total of 30,000 SEK (approximately 2,600 EUR). Your return flight between Sweden and Berlin will also be covered. You will live and work for two months in a furnished studio flat in the Atelierhaus Mengerzeile in Alt-Treptow, in the centre of Berlin. You will be provided with a room of approximately 25 m² featuring a bed, a small kitchenette and internet access, as well as a separate 60 m² studio (Art Studio m3) with an en-suite bathroom. At the end of your stay, you will have the opportunity to organise a small exhibition there. A residency usually runs from June to July. The residency programme is organised by the Culture Committee of the Västra Götaland Region in Sweden.

Who can apply

• Your work: You work as an artist or craftsperson. A formal qualification is not required.
• Where you live: You live in the Västra Götaland region of Sweden.
• Field: Any artistic or craft discipline, such as painting, film, photography, design or conceptual art.
• Nationality: Applicants of any nationality are welcome to apply, provided they live in Västra Götaland.

How to apply

Applications must be submitted via the region’s website. For the residency 2027, the application period begins on 26 October and ends on 30 November. A two-member panel with expertise in art and craft will decide who is awarded the place.

How realistic are your chances?

The selection criteria for this award are very strict: you must be an active artist living in a specific region of Sweden, and only one artist-in-residence place is awarded per period. This keeps the pool of applicants small, but as there is only one place available, competition is nevertheless fierce. If you meet the regional criteria and can present a compelling professional portfolio, you have a genuine chance of success. It is advisable to apply as soon as the application period opens.
