About this scholarship

Karin Fallenius Scholarship

You will receive an annual scholarship, which is primarily intended to support language studies. The foundation determines the amount on a case-by-case basis and does not announce it in advance. The scholarship is awarded by the ‘Stiftelsen Kronprinsessan Margaretas Arbetsnämnd för synskadade’ (KMA), a Swedish foundation that supports people with visual impairments and funds research into vision loss. It awards this scholarship every year in memory of Karin Fallenius.

Who can apply

  • Visual impairment: You have a visual impairment, either severe (grav) or partial (synsvag). You can provide a medical certificate or a certificate from an eye clinic (syncentral) that is no more than two years old.
  • Age: You are under 30 years old.
  • Field of study: You mainly study languages.
  • Where you study: You’re studying in Sweden. Every higher education institution counts.
  • Nationality: Any nationality can apply.
  • Other funding: Please list any other funding you have applied for or received for the same degree programme, including any previous funding from the KMA.

How to apply

Applications must be submitted online via the Foundation’s application system. The application window opens on 1 August and closes on 15 September at 23:59. The Foundation will inform you in November whether you have been awarded the grant.

How realistic are your chances?

This scholarship is very narrowly defined. You must have a visual impairment, be under 30 years of age and be studying languages as your main subject, which means that very few applicants apply for it. If you clearly meet these criteria and can provide evidence of your disability, your chances are good.
