About this award / prize

Vinge Diversity Project: moral courage and academic improvement scholarships

You will receive a one-off cash prize of SEK 2,500 (about 225 EUR) for showing civic courage or achieving outstanding academic results at your sixth form college. The winners will also be given priority access to Vinge’s paid summer internship programme (sommarpraktik). The funding comes from Vinge, a Swedish commercial law firm. As part of its diversity project, the firm is working with four partner schools to attract more pupils from diverse backgrounds to the legal profession. The award for civic courage is presented to pupils who have taken a stand against intolerance or helped to bring their community together. The award for academic progress is presented to pupils who have significantly improved their academic performance during their time at school.

Who can apply

  • Your school: You are attending one of Vinge’s four partner schools: St Botvid’s Upper Secondary School or Kungsholmens västra Upper Secondary School in Stockholm, Angeredsgymnasiet in Gothenburg, or Malmö Borgarskola.
  • Level: You are an upper secondary school (gymnasium) student.
  • What you've done: You have shown moral courage, for example by building bridges within your community or by standing up against intolerance. Or perhaps you significantly improved your marks whilst studying.
  • Nationality: Applicants of all nationalities are welcome to apply, provided they are enrolled at one of the partner schools.
  • Background: The project aims to promote greater diversity within the legal profession; students from overseas backgrounds are therefore particularly encouraged to apply. This is an advantage, but not a requirement.

How to apply

You do not need to apply. A panel comprising representatives from Vinge and your school will select the winners based on the criteria set out above. The prizes will be presented at the graduation ceremonies at the end of May or in June.

How realistic are your chances?

This award is very restricted: only pupils from four specific schools are eligible to win it, and selection is made by a committee, not through an open application process. Each year, up to 12 scholarships are awarded across all categories, meaning the pool of applicants is small. If you attend a partner school and have distinguished yourself through moral courage or a significant improvement in your academic performance, it is a teacher’s recommendation that puts you in the running.
