About this scholarship
Erasmus+ grant at the University of Gothenburg
You will receive 530 to 580 EUR per month whilst completing part of your degree at a partner university in another European country. The exact amount depends on the cost of living in your destination country: 580 EUR per month for more expensive countries such as Germany, France, Italy or the Nordic countries, and 530 EUR per month for more affordable countries such as Spain, Portugal, Poland or Hungary. A stay lasts between 2 and 12 months. You’ll also receive a travel allowance, which is based on the distance to your host university. If you cover at least half the journey by bus, train or carpool (‘green travel’), you will be granted additional travel days. The funding comes from the European Union and is administered by the International Centre at the University of Gothenburg.
If you are on a limited income, you can apply for a supplement of 250 EUR per month. Students with a disability, students with children and students with protected refugee status in Sweden can also apply for additional support. Only one supplement category applies at any one time. You can also take free online language tests and courses before and after your stay.
Who can apply
- Your university: At the time of your application, you must be enrolled at the University of Gothenburg.
- Study level: Open to Bachelor’s, Master’s and PhD students.
- Field of study: Open to all subjects.
- Nationality: All nationalities can apply.
- Where you go: A partner higher education institution in one of the 26 EU countries (excluding Sweden), Norway, Liechtenstein, Iceland, Turkey, North Macedonia or Serbia. Some funding may also be used outside these countries, for example in the United Kingdom or Switzerland.
- Study load: You will be studying full-time at the host university, usually taking 30 credits per semester.
- Time limit: The total duration of your Erasmus grant must not exceed 12 months per level of study, taking into account both study periods and work placements.
How to apply
You do not need to submit a separate application for funding. First, your faculty’s international coordinator will nominate you for an exchange place. Once you have been nominated, you will automatically receive Erasmus funding. Please contact your faculty or department to enquire about exchange places and the relevant deadlines.
How realistic are your chances?
The scholarship itself is not an obstacle: any student nominated for a European exchange receives it automatically. What determines your chances is whether you secure an exchange place through your department – and competition for these places varies depending on your subject area and destination. If you are enrolled at Gothenburg University, are studying full-time and receive a nomination, your funding is guaranteed.
