About this scholarship

LawrencevilleDays scholarship

You will receive a guaranteed grant of about 9,200 EUR (10,000 USD) for one academic year at Lawrenceville School, a boarding school in New Jersey, USA. The total annual costs amount to approximately 74,000 EUR (80,000 USD). In addition to the guaranteed amount, you can apply for the school’s own financial support. If the school recognises your financial circumstances, this support may cover the full costs for one year, including accommodation, board and teaching materials. Pupils who receive this support are awarded, on average, around 58,000 EUR (63,000 USD). You will spend the year in the school’s final year and take college preparatory courses in the social sciences, natural sciences, humanities and technology, as well as sport, theatre and music. The Sverige-Amerika Stiftelsen (Sweden-America Foundation) organises the scholarship. You will need to pay for your own flights to and from New Jersey.

Who can apply

  • Nationality: You are a Swedish citizen.
  • School year: You are in your first year of upper secondary school (Gymnasium) in Sweden, roughly in year 10.
  • Grades: You’ve got very good marks.
  • English: You speak and write English very well.
  • Field of study: Every subject. The school offers a wide range of university preparation courses.

How to apply

You must submit a digital application in English by 4 December 2025. This must include a handwritten personal statement, a letter from your parents, translated school reports and three teacher references. Around five or six applicants will then be invited to Stockholm for an interview at the end of December, following which one candidate will be nominated. The nomination does not guarantee either admission to the school or full funding.

How realistic are your chances?

As only one candidate is nominated each year, this is a highly competitive award, even though the pool of eligible Swedish sixth-formers is already small in the first year. Good grades and a solid command of English are essential. The essay and the references are what make the difference. Even after nomination, admission and full funding still depend on the decision of the respective school; therefore, regard it as an ambitious goal for which a serious and well-prepared application is worthwhile.
