French Alliance Grant

You will receive a one-off grant of about 1,770 EUR (20,000 SEK) to study at a university in France for a period of at least four months, usually one semester. This funding is intended for university-level studies, not for language courses or short study visits. The grant is awarded by the Alliance Française de Stockholm, a charity dedicated to promoting the French language and Francophone cultures.

Who can apply

• Nationality: You are a Swedish student.
• Level: You are studying at a university or other higher education institution. If you have already completed a PhD, you are not eligible to apply.
• Where you go: You are studying at a university in France where lectures are mainly held in French rather than in English.
• French skills: You are at least at level 5 (“level 5”) in French.
• Field of study: Any topic is fine.
• Duration: Your course in France will last at least four months. It will begin in the autumn of the year in which you apply, or in the following spring.
• Erasmus: Erasmus students may also apply, provided they enclose proof of their admission to a French higher education institution. Erasmus is an EU exchange programme.
• Not eligible: Swedish pupils who are already living in France, as well as those who attended the Lycée Français Saint-Louis in Stockholm.

How to apply

Applications must be submitted exclusively via the online form between 1 March and 15 April (application deadline: 15 April, 23:59). Applications sent by email and late submissions will not be considered. You will receive a response by email by 15 May, but only if you have been shortlisted.

How realistic are your chances?

This scholarship is aimed at a small target group: you must be a Swedish student, have a command of French at level 5, and be studying predominantly in French at a French university. As a result, the pool of eligible applicants is small. If you clearly meet these criteria and submit a complete application by the deadline, your chances are good. Several scholarships are awarded each year, so it is not a single, highly prestigious award.
