About this scholarship

FRIENDSHIP FRANCO-SWEDISH scholarship

You will receive up to 15,000 SEK (about 1,330 EUR) for your studies in France. The association determines the exact amount on a case-by-case basis. The amount covers a stay of at least one semester, either at a French secondary school (lycée) where lessons are taught in French or at a university in France. The funding comes from ‘L’Amitié Franco-Suedoise’, a Swedish-French friendship association in Stockholm which promotes the study of the French language.

Who can apply

  • Level: You are attending a French lycée or studying in France within three years of completing Swedish upper secondary education (Studentexamen).
  • Nationality: You are a Swedish citizen.
  • French: You have at least a 3 level of French from your school education. The association gives preference to applicants who will be studying entirely or partly in French.
  • Field of study: Any topic is fine.
  • Type of studies: At the time of application, the degree programme must not yet have commenced, and the placement must not be an internship. At secondary school level, lessons must be taught in French; therefore, the Swedish school in Paris does not count.

How to apply

Apply by email to the association, preferably as a single PDF. The deadline is 15 May, including for studies starting the following spring semester. You must show an admission letter from a French institution before the money is paid, but you can hand that in later.

How realistic are your chances?

This scholarship is very restrictive. You must be a Swedish citizen, study in France within three years of leaving school, and have a genuine command of French, meaning that very few people meet the criteria. If you fulfil these conditions and have a clear intention to study in French, your prospects are good. A concrete study plan and strong references carry more weight than a polished cover letter.
