What the Linnaeus room gives you

You get a room to rent in the international student city (Cite Internationale Universitaire) in Grenoble, France, plus a grant of 25,000 SEK (about 2,200 EUR) towards the rent. The rent is currently a little over 400 EUR per month. The award covers the spring semester only, so 5 months. It comes from L'Amitie Franco-Suedoise, a Swedish-French friendship association founded in 1918 that funds students and researchers going to France.

Who can apply

• Nationality: You are a Swedish national.
• Study level: You are already well advanced in your studies and would like to undertake academic research or pursue further studies in Grenoble.
• Field of study: Any topic is fine, ideally one with a focus on France.
• French skills: You have at least level 3 (grade 3) in French from your Swedish school. If you plan to study entirely or partly in French, you’ll have a better chance.
• Timing: At the time of applying, you must not have started your degree programme yet. To receive the funds, you must provide a certificate of admission from a French institution. You may submit this at a later date.

Please send your application by email, preferably as a single PDF file. The application deadline for the spring semester is 15. Please include your personal details, information about your previous knowledge of French, a brief personal statement, your academic results and a written letter of recommendation.

How realistic are your chances?

This scholarship is very narrowly defined. It is aimed at a Swedish national at an advanced stage of their studies who wishes to study in Grenoble and is proficient in French; consequently, the pool of eligible applicants is small. If you clearly meet these criteria – particularly if you will be studying in French – and apply by the deadline in October, your chances are good.
