About this scholarship

Clarence Dybeck Scholarship

You will receive 50,000 SEK (about 4,450 EUR) to study outside Sweden for 6 to 12 months. The course may be theoretical or practical in nature. The Clarence Dybeck Foundation for Maritime Education (Clarence Dybecks Stiftelse för Sjöfartsutbildning) awards one or two of these travel grants each year. It supports young people from the Swedish maritime and shipping sector in gaining experience abroad.

Who can apply

  • Field: You are working or undertaking training in the maritime and shipping sector, for example with a shipping company or in the shipbroking industry.
  • Where you go: You’ll use the money to study outside Sweden for 6 to 12 months.
  • Age: You’re one of the younger employees in this sector.
  • Background (preferred): It is an advantage if you have completed your basic training in Sweden and have practical experience in shipping or ship brokering. However, this is merely a plus and not a mandatory requirement.
  • Nationality: Applicants of all nationalities are welcome to apply, although priority will be given to those resident in Sweden.

How to apply

Applications should be submitted via the form on the Foundation’s website, by post or by email, together with a brief description of how you intend to use the grant. The deadline for applications is 10 May each year. The Board of Trustees will make its decision at its meeting in May.

How realistic are your chances?

This scholarship is very specific. It is aimed at young people from the Swedish maritime and shipping sector who wish to study abroad, so only a small number of people are eligible. Only one or two scholarships are awarded each year, so every place counts. However, if you clearly meet the maritime focus requirement and can present a concrete plan for your studies abroad, your chances are good.
