What you get

You will receive needs-based financial help from the Fredrik Lindström Memorial Foundation in Eskilstuna, Sweden. This is not a traditional student grant (a regular monthly study allowance), but direct support for people in financial difficulty. There are two types. The first is a long-term grant designed to help you complete a course of study that will lead to employment and a better life. The second covers specific costs, such as dental treatment, spectacles, clothing, furniture or household appliances. The amount is not fixed; the foundation determines it based on your individual circumstances.

Who can apply

• Where you live: You have been registered as a resident of Eskilstuna for at least 5 years. You can prove this by presenting a ‘Personbevis’ (identity card).
• Financial need: Your income is no more than approximately 1,000 SEK (approximately 90 EUR) per month above the official minimum amount for basic living costs.
• Priority group: Long-term financial assistance is primarily intended for young people, families with children and single parents, where student grants and other sources of income are insufficient.
• Field of study: Any further training or education that improves your career prospects counts.
• Nationality: Applicants of all nationalities are welcome to apply. The key requirement is that you have been living in Eskilstuna for five years.

How to apply

Please complete the application form on the foundation’s website and post it to the foundation in Eskilstuna. There is no deadline. Applications are processed in the order in which they are received, and you will receive a written response to every complete application. For the long-term grant, you will also meet in person with representatives of the Foundation to explain your objectives for the next two to three years.

How realistic are your chances?

This support is aimed at a small target group: you must have lived in Eskilstuna for at least five years and have an income that is barely above the minimum required to cover basic living costs. There are very few applicants. If you clearly meet these criteria and can demonstrate your need, your chances are good. The foundation makes its decisions based on genuine hardship, so a clear, well-documented case is more important than a sophisticated one.
