The Bertebos Prize (Halland Academy)

You will receive a one-off prize of about 4,500 EUR (50,000 SEK). It is awarded once a year to a single recipient: an individual, an association or an organisation working in the field of food culture or agriculture in the Halland region of Sweden. The Bertebos Stiftelse, a foundation based in Falkenberg, funds the prize. The Halland Academy presents it as part of its annual ceremony.

Who can apply

• Who you are: Applications are open to individuals, organisations and institutions. You do not need to be a student or a researcher.
• What you do: You are actively involved in Halland’s food culture or in agriculture, food production or the local food trade.
• Regional link: Your work is important for the future of Halland. Previous winners have included farmers, food producers, chefs, bakers and food consultants from the region.
• Nationality: All nationalities are welcome. The key thing is that your work has a connection to Halland in Sweden.
• Field: Food and agriculture, including food culture, agriculture, food production and ecology.

How realistic are your chances?

This prize has a very narrow scope. It recognises achievements in the fields of food and agriculture that are linked to a specific Swedish region – Halland – meaning that the pool of potential winners is small. Only one prize is awarded each year. The Halland Academy selects the winner itself, rather than issuing an open call for nominations; consequently, it tends to recognise existing achievements rather than potential as demonstrated on paper. If your work in the food sector is well known locally in Halland, you have a realistic chance of winning.
