About this scholarship

The Löwensköld Scholarship

You will receive an annual grant intended to cover the actual costs of your studies: the purchase of textbooks, moving to the city where you are studying, or travel to and from there. The scholarship is awarded by the Löwensköld Foundation, which is administered by the Swedish steel industry association ‘Jernkontoret’. The exact amount is not disclosed. It depends on the foundation’s annual return on investment and is divided amongst eligible students.

Who can apply

  • Where you come from: You come from one of the five Swedish counties (län): Dalarna, Västmanland, Örebro, Gävleborg or Värmland.
  • Field of study: You are studying a subject in the field of mining science (bergsvetenskaplig inriktning), such as mining engineering or a related materials science subject.
  • Where you study: You are enrolled at Bergsskolan in Filipstad, Luleå University of Technology, or the Material Design Programme at the Royal Institute of Technology (KTH) or Högskolan Dalarna.
  • Nationality: Applicants of all nationalities are welcome to apply. What matters is which district you come from and where you are studying.

How to apply

Please send a signed application form and proof of enrolment (studieintyg) by post to the Foundation, for the attention of Jernkontoret in Stockholm. The deadline is 31 January each year. Decisions are made at the Jernkontoret board meeting in March. Applications cannot be submitted after the deadline, and no appeal may be lodged against a rejection.

How realistic are your chances?

The eligibility criteria for this scholarship are very strict. You must come from one of five specified districts, be studying a subject related to mining, and be enrolled at one of a small number of specifically named universities. This keeps the pool of eligible applicants small and competition limited. If you clearly meet all three conditions and submit your application documents by the deadline, your chances are good.
