Benefit

You receive a research award to continue your work in virology and immunology at the Karolinska Institutet (KI) in Stockholm. Each year 1 to 3 researchers receive it, and the total prize sum is split equally between them. The exact amount is not published. The award comes from the Jonas Söderquist foundation and supports young researchers in advancing their basic research. You cannot use the money for conference travel.

Eligibility

• Where you research: You work at the Karolinska Institutet in Stockholm.
• Field: Your research is in virology, immunology, or both. Past winners studied topics such as viral replication, immune cells and infections.
• Career stage: You are an early-career researcher, usually a postdoc (a researcher who already holds a doctorate/PhD) at a KI department.
• Nationality: Any nationality can apply, as long as you research at KI.

How to apply

There is no open application. KI's research committee (Kommittén för forskning) selects the winners on the recommendation of a review group. The decision is announced once a year, in late autumn.

How realistic are your chances?

This is an internal KI award decided by nomination, so you cannot apply yourself. It is out of reach unless you already research virology or immunology at the Karolinska Institutet. Within that group the field is small, since only 1 to 3 people are chosen each year for strong, original work. If your basic research stands out, the review group may put your name forward.
