Bertha Neubergh scholarship for arts students

You will receive a one-off scholarship of 15,000 SEK (about 1,300 EUR) to fund your art studies at the University of Gothenburg in Sweden. The scholarship is drawn from a fund established by Bertha Neubergh to support talented art students and is paid out once a year.

Who can apply

• Where you study: You are studying art, design, crafts, music, musical theatre, opera or a similar subject in the field of the performing arts at the University of Gothenburg, mainly at HDK-Valand (Art and Design) or at the Academy of Music and Theatre.
• Grades: You have an excellent academic record. Applications are ranked according to academic performance.
• Financial need: The fund also checks whether you need the money.
• Nationality: Applicants of all nationalities are welcome to apply, provided they are studying at the University of Gothenburg.

How to apply

Applications should be submitted via the ‘Stipendier’ course room on Canvas, the University’s online learning platform. Please read the selection criteria before applying. The scholarship is awarded once a year, and the application deadline falls in the first few months of the year.

How realistic are your chances?

This grant is very narrowly defined. Only students of the humanities at two specific faculties of a university are eligible to apply, so the pool of eligible applicants is small. If you can provide evidence that you are enrolled on one of these degree programmes and can demonstrate both good academic performance and a genuine need, your chances are good. It is advisable to apply right at the start of the application period, as the grant is awarded only once a year.
