Anders Sandrew Foundation Film Script Scholarship (Filmmanusstipendium)

You will receive 200,000 SEK in total (about 17,500 EUR) to write a screenplay for a feature film without any time or budget constraints. The amount will be paid in two instalments: 100,000 SEK (approximately 8,750 EUR) following the award ceremony and the remaining 100,000 SEK once you have submitted your completed work. The Foundation will also cover your mentor’s fee, which corresponds to approximately one week’s full-time work. You have up to two years from the date of the award ceremony to complete the screenplay. The Swedish Anders Sandrew Foundation has been supporting artists in the fields of film, theatre and music since 1958.

Who can apply

• Age: You have not submitted 35 by the application deadline.
• Experience: You have professional experience in screenwriting or a recognised qualification in screenwriting.
• Supervisor: You have a professional mentor (an experienced guide) who supports you in your work.
• Nationality: Open to all nationalities.
• Field: This prize is intended exclusively for feature film screenplays.
• One entry: Only one application may be submitted per person.

How to apply

You apply online using the Foundation’s form, once you have created a profile and logged in. The application window runs every year from 1 November to 22 December; late applications will not be accepted. You must include a short personal cover letter, a letter of recommendation from your supervisor, a synopsis of the film, a written excerpt of a dialogue scene from a previous screenplay, and your academic transcripts and references. The Foundation will make its decision at the end of February.

How realistic are your chances?

This is a single, highly targeted award. It is awarded to a feature film screenwriter under the age of 35 who has genuine writing experience and is already working with a professional mentor. Due to these strict selection criteria, the pool of applicants is smaller than for open scholarships, yet a highly lucrative individual prize still attracts serious competitors. If you clearly fit the profile and can provide a compelling writing sample as well as a well-developed film concept, your chances are good.
