Vinge - VINGE'S LEGAL SCHOLARSHIP

Benefit

You will receive a one-off grant of SEK 15,000 to 30,000 (about 1,350 to 2,700 EUR) to help you get started with your law degree in Sweden. For Angeredsgymnasiet in Gothenburg, the grant amounts to 15,000 SEK (approximately 1,350 EUR) per student, for up to 3 students per year. The schools in Stockholm and Malmö share larger sums. You will also be assigned a mentor (‘Fadder’, an experienced adviser) from Vinge, who will support you throughout your studies. Once you have completed six semesters of law, Vinge will offer you a paid summer placement. The scholarship is awarded by Advokatfirman Vinge, a leading Swedish commercial law firm, as part of its diversity project, which supports students from international backgrounds in entering the legal profession. Up to 12 scholarships are awarded per academic year.

Eligibility

• Your school: You have completed your upper secondary education at one of Vinge’s partner schools: St. Botvid’s Upper Secondary School or Kungsholmens västra Upper Secondary School in Stockholm, Angeredsgymnasiet in Gothenburg, or Malmö Borgarskola.
• Background: You have a foreign background. This means that you were born abroad, or that you were born in Sweden and both your parents were born abroad.
• What you study: You have started or applied for the Swedish law degree programme (Juristprogrammet, 270 ECTS, leading to a Swedish law degree).
• Timing: You must start your law degree within three years of receiving your A-level certificate.
• Nationality: Applicants of all nationalities are welcome to apply, provided they meet the above requirements regarding their background and partner schools.

How to apply

Please complete Vinge’s application form and submit it to your contact person at your university by 15 May of the year in which you graduate. Please enclose a personal cover letter explaining why you wish to study law, as well as a certified copy of your application for the law degree programme. A committee comprising representatives from Vinge and your university will decide on the award of the scholarship; its decision is final.

How realistic are your chances?

This scholarship is aimed at a small target group. You must be a graduate of one of the few specifically named universities, have an international background and be starting a law degree. Consequently, very few people apply for it. If you clearly meet these criteria and write a genuine personal statement, your chances are good. The most important thing is to apply in your final year and demonstrate a genuine commitment to studying law.
