Längmanska Cultural Foundation grant

You will receive a one-off grant of up to about 4,450 EUR (up to 50,000 SEK) for a specific cultural or research project. The Swedish foundation has been supporting such projects since 1919, funded by a private bequest. It supports four areas: the humanities (including theology and law), the natural sciences (including medicine), the arts and literature (including music, dance and film), and adult education (Folkbildning). The funds are intended to finance a specifically defined project or publication.

Who can apply

• Who: Both individuals and organisations may submit an application. Associations and institutions are only eligible for funding for a specific task or publication that is not covered by their normal work.
• Field: Your project falls within the fields of the humanities, natural sciences, art and literature, or adult education.
• Academic level: For projects in the humanities, you are usually required to hold a doctoral degree (PhD) or a higher academic qualification.
• Not your own studies: The scholarship is not intended to fund your own education or further training.
• Not finished work: Your project must still be unfinished at the time the funding is awarded.
• Nationality: Any nationality can apply.

How to apply

Applications must be submitted exclusively via the Foundation’s online system. The system is open every year from 1 October to 15 January, from 23:59. Please write your application in Swedish. Attachments may be in English, but must include a brief summary in Swedish. You will be notified of the decision by email in the first half of May.

How realistic are your chances?

This funding is aimed at specific projects with a clear cultural or academic purpose. For work in the humanities, a doctoral-level qualification is required, which limits the pool of applicants. Applying in Swedish presents a real hurdle if you cannot read or write the language. If your project falls within one of the four areas, is not yet complete and is supported by a clear budget and plan, your chances are good.
