Ericsson Research Foundation grant

You will receive a grant of project-based grant for a specific research activity. This may be a research visit to a university or institute abroad, or a trip to present an accepted paper at a conference. There is no fixed monthly amount. The foundation determines the amount of each grant on a case-by-case basis, based on your application and the supporting justification. For 2026, the foundation plans to award a total of around 1 million SEK (approximately 90,000 EUR), to be divided amongst several recipients. Ericsson established the foundation in 1946 to promote scientific research at Swedish universities.

Who can apply

• Level: You are a PhD student or have recently completed your PhD (postdoc). Master’s students are rarely eligible for funding, and when they are, it is usually limited to theses undertaken abroad.
• Where you study: You are based at a Swedish university or research institute.
• Field: Your research focuses on electrical engineering, i.e. areas of interest to Ericsson, such as wireless systems, microwave technology, security, artificial intelligence or IP networks.
• What the money is for: You need it for a research stay abroad or to present a paper that has been accepted for a conference.
• Nationality: Any nationality can apply.

How to apply

Applications must be submitted via the Foundation’s online portal. Create an account, specify the amount required and the purpose of the grant, and then upload your CV and letters of recommendation. Applications for the 2026 round must be received by 20 February 2026. The results will be announced on 5 May 2026.

How realistic are your chances?

This funding is highly targeted. You must be a PhD student or postdoctoral researcher at a Swedish institution, be working in a field of electrical engineering relevant to Ericsson, and be able to present a concrete plan for a research trip or a conference. This keeps the pool of applicants small. If you clearly meet the eligibility criteria and can support your application with an invitation or a confirmation of admission, your chances are good, particularly as the funding is distributed amongst several recipients each year.
