About this award / prize
What you get
The Lidén Medal is an honorary medal, not a cash award. The Old Norrköping Society (Föreningen Gamla Norrköping) gives it each year to honour work that protects Norrköping's history and townscape. The medal comes in bronze and silver. Separate honorary diplomas go to people who help improve the look of the city. Past recipients include journalists, theatre-makers, librarians and long-serving members of the society. The society was founded in 1930 and works under the motto "preserve the city's annual rings".
Who can receive it
- What it rewards: A genuine contribution to the preservation of the history, culture or townscape of Norrköping in Sweden.
- How you get it: You cannot apply. The association’s executive committee decides who will be honoured.
If you would prefer to apply for a grant instead, the Society awards a separate humanities scholarship. It amounts to 25,000 SEK (approximately 2,200 EUR) for study and research projects relating to the history of Norrköping. It is open to students and researchers at an advanced level, and the association announces the scholarship every year in March and April.
