Region Västra Götaland - Guest Studio Stay in Querétaro

Guest Studio Stay in Querétaro

You will be awarded a two-month artist residency (a funded stay to work on your art) in Querétaro, Mexico. You will receive a monthly grant of approximately 15,000 SEK (around 1,360 EUR) to cover food, living expenses and materials, paid once a month, i.e. twice during your stay. You will also be provided with free use of a studio at the Museo de la Ciudad, accommodation near the studio, and a return flight between Sweden and Mexico. The museum is a vibrant cultural hub where many Mexican artists have studios, exhibit their work and run workshops. The residency is offered by the Culture Committee of the Västra Götaland Region in Sweden, which aims to support artists in working and developing their careers abroad.

Who can apply

• Profession: You work professionally as a visual artist or craft artist.
• Where you live: You live in the Västra Götaland region of Sweden.
• Field: All areas of art and crafts are welcome.
• Nationality: Applicants of any nationality may apply, provided they live in Västra Götaland.
• Age: No age limit.

How to apply

Applications must be submitted online via vgregion.se. The application period for the 2027 begins on 26 October and ends on 30 November. A panel of two experts with specialist knowledge of art and crafts will decide who is awarded the place.

How realistic are your chances?

This residency programme is highly targeted: applications are open exclusively to professional artists and craftspeople living in a specific Swedish region, meaning that the pool of applicants is small compared to open grants. If you work professionally in this field and live in Västra Götaland, your chances are good, particularly if you have a strong portfolio. However, as a single place is awarded following a decision by a two-member jury, competition is fierce – so be sure to apply early.
